Planning Your Hike
Easy with a few short climbs. Two loops join in the middle to create a figure-eight trail. The trail head starts at the property sign and continues uphill through a mature forested canopy, until it loops back around to the same parking area. The total trail length is estimated at 1.07 miles.
Ecology and Management
Shiprock Woods is managed for its passive recreation as being of highest and best use.
Shiprock Woods serves as a riparian buffer of secondary, mixed-hardwood forest surrounded by farmland. A mature stand of beech is a stand-out attraction of the forested landscape and a sentinel white oak standing at the high point of the preserve is a popular rest spot.
Watershed
An unnamed stream on the northern portion of the Preserve and an intermittent stream in the center of the Preserve both empty into the Pequea Creek before meandering its way to the Susquehanna River at the village of Pequea.

Acquisition History
The Conservancy acquired this property in 2005 with funding from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Community Parks Initiative of Lancaster County.
