2023 was a year of growth for Lancaster Conservancy as we successfully navigated opportunities and challenges that will strengthen the organization for the coming years. We take the responsibility of managing 50 nature preserves that are open to the public very seriously as we steward these protected places for the highest benefit of the natural world while providing greater accessibility to the outdoors for our community. From well maintained and constructed trails to the ecological health of our forests and streams, significant thought, planning, and labor contribute to our success.
Access to nature was a theme that emerged for the Conservancy in 2023 as we built and restored trails to handle increased foot traffic, including opening a new universal access trail (with more to come) as we work to make nature accessible and welcoming for all. At the same time we are undertaking the planning that will inform our long-term habitat management strategies and restoration goals to foster thriving wild ecosystems. In this annual report, learn more about the Conservancy’s 2023 successes.
Although the numerous threats to our natural lands can feel daunting, we reflect on our 2023 successes with a feeling of accomplishment, and we look to the future with enthusiasm and optimism knowing we are supported by a dedicated and passionate movement of conservationists. Together, we accomplished so much in 2023, but there is so much more we can do! We are always looking ahead to the next parcel of land to protect, the next restoration project to undertake, or the next student we can inspire through a hands-on connection with nature.
With your support, we can build on our 2023 accomplishments and continue to protect and steward our wildlands and provide access to nature for all in 2024 and beyond!
